We have a rich heritage

Easter Sunday, 1944… Church services were held in the Hunt Clubhouse in the area now know as Grosse Pointe Woods. The clubhouse served as a bar and gambling center during the week and as a place of worship on Sunday, when the minister would move the liquor and ice outside so that the bar could be used as a pulpit.

In June 1944, a charter class of five members officially organized Redeemer United Methodist Church and Reverend Ben Hollis was its pastor. We bought that Clubhouse for $2,000 in October, 1944 and in February, 1945 the Church was consecrated by Bishop Wade so that we no longer had to remove the spirits to make room for the Holy Ghost.

That was our humble beginnings.
